Privacy & POPIA Notice

1. Who we are
The Wabi-Sabi Life Coach is operated by Mary Nel, a sole trader based in Cape Town, South Africa. When this notice says “we”, “us” or “our”, it means Mary Nel trading as The Wabi-Sabi Life Coach.
We are the Responsible Party for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. What we collect and why
Email address (and name, where provided)
We collect your email when you take the Clarity Compass quiz, sign up for the newsletter, download a free book chapter, or send a contact message. We use it to deliver what you requested and to send you information about coaching services and essays. Legal basis: your explicit consent.
Quiz answers
If you complete the Clarity Compass quiz, your anonymised answers are stored alongside your archetype result so we can tailor follow-up communication to where you actually are. Legal basis: your explicit consent at the point of capture.
Contact messages
Messages submitted through the contact form are stored so we can respond to you. They are not used for marketing without separate consent. Legal basis: legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
3. Who else sees your information
We use the following third-party processors, each bound by their own data processing agreements:
- Supabase, secure database hosting (EU region). Your email and quiz data are stored here.
- n8n, automation platform used to send onboarding emails and route contact messages.
- Cal.com, booking system used if you schedule a clarity call. Subject to Cal.com's own privacy policy.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. How long we keep it
We keep email subscriber data for as long as your subscription is active, and for up to 12 months after you unsubscribe (in case you wish to re-subscribe without re-entering your details). Quiz data is retained for the same period. Contact messages are retained for 24 months. You may request deletion at any time, see section 5.
5. Your rights
Under POPIA (and GDPR where it applies), you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you
- Request a copy of your information
- Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Ask us to delete your information (“right to be forgotten”)
- Withdraw your consent at any time (this won't affect anything we did before you withdrew it)
- Object to how we use your information
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) or your national data authority
To exercise any of these rights, email marynel@thewabisabilifecoach.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line. We will respond within 30 days.
6. Cookies and analytics
This website uses no advertising cookies and no third-party tracking pixels. Where analytics are used, they are privacy-respecting and cookieless (e.g. Plausible or Fathom). We do not display a cookie banner because we don't set non-essential cookies.
